FdA Esports Events & Production

Bristol Zoo Gardens remains open to students.

You will have private access to the zoo grounds during lectures, to carry out your observations and data collection, but as more animals are moved, this will gradually be carried out at the Wild Place Project. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Esports has quickly become the industry to watch! This multi-billion pound industry is booming and while not everyone will become a professional gamer, the roles don’t stop there with the industry requiring a diverse, adaptable and professional workforce of media professionals, event managers, marketeers, sales managers, content creators, graphic and motion designers and gaming analyst’s. Throughout the course you’ll have the opportunity to find your own path and career in the esports arena.

Our Esports Foundation Degree runs in tandem with ourEsports Academy provision, which allows aspiring players to compete in theNational University Esports League (NUEL), National Student Esports (NSE), andTier 2/3 tournaments.

We offer a Foundation Degree (FdA) (Level 4 and level 5) and a one-year BA ‘top up’ course (level 6). Our degrees place substantial emphasis on practical hands-on application. This allows you to develop skills which are highly valued in the Esports industry including those in business management ,finance, and event management. You will be taught in specialist digital studios with advanced coaching support available from our academic staff who have first-hand industry experience.

Are you ready?

This foundation degree is delivered as a mixture of classroom and practical sessions within our Gaming Hub which is equipped with powerful GamingPCs equivalent to those used in industry. You will have the opportunity to develop your own brand, secure partnerships, create content, whilst also developing casting, hosting and broadcast production and management skills.

There are no formal examinations and you will be assessed by written and practical assessments. All practical sessions are relevant to theEsports industry and you will have the opportunity to participate in and lead live Esports competitions. Alongside studying you will be encouraged to actively participate in our University Centre’s Esports teams. It is also expected that you engage in practical work experience and volunteering with local and national Esports organisations.

 By the end of the course you should leave with the knowledge and skills required to establish your own brand and business, and pursue careers in Esports events, broadcasting, casting, content creation, marketing, and more! You will have the opportunity to engage in trips and events which could include Insomnia, EpicLan, EGX and other nationwide events related to the Esports, Video Games and Digital Media Industries

Introduction to Esports

In this module you will be developing your knowledge and understanding of the different organisation and various structure of Esports in both the United Kingdom and around the world. You will be introduced to the various eco-systems and cultures within Esports. You will also be presented with the complex matters of equality, diversity and representation in the Esports industry to consider critically.

Branding & Identity

This module will enable you to plan how to establish or develop your own professional brand as part of your long-term career ambitions and gain recognition within the field.

Business & Finance in Esports

In this module you will be developing your knowledge and understanding of the business and some aspects of how Esports industry ventures are funded. You will explore different types of existing enterprises as well as their stakeholders. You will also be exploring aspects of business strategy, risk analysis and operations logistics.

Esports Tournament

In this module you will be developing your knowledge and understanding of Esports tournaments, looking at planning and preparation, as well as running of tournaments for specific audience, platforms and genres of competitive games. This will connect to topics relating to funding, marketing, rules, regulations and logistics.

Esports Management

In this module you will be developing your knowledge and understanding of managing Esports events. In this module you will be working on managing live events that you and peers have planned. Using skills developed in previous module of study you will be taking part various roles and ensuring that the planned event is executed successfully before reflecting on own and team performance to identify areas for improvement in performance.

In this module you will be developing your knowledge and understanding of planning, marketing and running Esports events. This module is going to give you understanding of the different forms of Esports events, strategies to use when planning and running events, planning and management tools and aspects around the legal, ethical and safety aspects involved in planning for Esports events

Content Creation

In this module you will be developing your knowledge and understanding of content creation, its contextualisation and dissemination across various media platforms. You will also explore and develop your understanding of aspects of copywrite law in relation to media production. You will gain a firm understanding of current trends, trend identification and of how to reach your target audiences.

In this module you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the practices and process involved in casting and hosting an Esports event/broadcast. You will be exploring and experiencing what it takes to put on common broadcasts e.g. a tournament stream, using industry standard software, tools and platforms.

Entry Requirements

The minimum UCAS tariff entry points from a level 3 qualification, GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4. Please submit a portfolio to be reviewed by Programme Lead. Once your portfolio has been reviewed, you may be invited for an interview. Mature students over 24 without the relevant qualifications will be required to demonstrate previous experience and evidence of academic ability.
