As a wildlife biologist, interests include olfactory communication; wildlife diseases; mammal trapping and tracking. Kat has carried out research on properties of badger urine as a substance used in scent-marking at the University of Bristol; postdoctoral research on spatial perturbation in disturbed badger populations with Oxford University's WildCRU. Previous experience includes teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the Universities of Bristol, Central Lancashire, Oxford and East London.
