Whether you're already immersed in the field or aspire to make a difference in education our degrees in Education and Learning offer the perfect pathways to develop your skills, enhance your professional development and achieve your degree.

The degree is split into a two-year Foundation Degree and a Level 6 ‘top up’, giving you flexibility to leave with a qualification after two years or stay for three years and achieve your Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Learning.

Our programmes are work-based meaning you attend the University Centre in North Bristol for one day per week whilst you work in an educational environment for a minimum of 2.5 days per week. This can be in a voluntary or paid position meaning you can continue in paid employment whilst achieving your degree.

Foundation Degree in Education and Learning

The FdA Education and Learning places a strong emphasis on work-based learning meaning students apply the theoretical learning to their own working context. We take a research-informed approach to delivery which ensures the syllabus remains current and aligned to educational priorities equipping students with the skills which employers wish to see in graduating students.

We welcome students from a wide range of settings including; Early Years Practitioners, Primary and Secondary Schools, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities settings, Youth Workers/ Mentors and those supporting young adults in Further Education (FE) settings. This diversity of experience makes for a rich learning environment in the classroom and enables students to build up a tool kit of best practice approaches which can be applied in their own working environment.

The programme covers a wide range of study areas, including communication, language, and literacy; perspectives on education; behaviour for learning; special educational needs and disabilities; partnership working; ethnicity, diversity, and inclusion; technology in education; researching practice; and learning mathematics. These diverse subjects provide you with a holistic understanding of education and equip you to address the multifaceted challenges in today's educational environment.

Bachelor of Arts in Education and Learning

For those who have already achieved a Foundation Degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant subject, our BA (Hons) (Level 6) Education and Learning is the perfect ‘top-up’ course.

The BA (Hons) (Level 6) Education and Learning focuses on providing students with a robust understanding of educational theories and practices whilst developing specialist areas of interests through educational research. Whether you're interested in classroom teaching, educational administration or policy development, this degree equips you with the knowledge and skills needed to excel.
