At SGS College, learning goes far beyond the classroom. Higher Education Industry Week 2026 has been a powerful example of how degree-level study connects directly with the real world, giving students first-hand experience with professionals, workplaces, and career pathways linked to their courses.
Over the past couple of weeks, our HE students have been fully immersed in a range of guest lectures, industry events, talks, and trips designed to bring their studies to life and help them build meaningful connections with employers and experts in their fields.
Students from across our Higher Education programmes have taken part in tailored activities that link directly to their specialist subjects.
Specialist Make-up Design students were treated to an incredible guest lecture from Stuart Bray, a renowned Prosthetics Make-up Artist. They also visited Bottle Yard Studios, gaining valuable insight into professional studio environments and seeing how their skills translate into industry practice.
Games students attended a series of guest lectures before applying their learning creatively by developing their own 1D games, putting theory into practice in an engaging and innovative way.
Media students enjoyed an exciting and inspiring trip to Pinewood Studios, experiencing first-hand one of the UK’s most iconic production studios and gaining insight into large-scale media production.
At the Bristol School of Art, students are preparing to take part in a Next Steps Panel on Friday 6th February, designed to help them plan and prepare for their future creative careers.
One of the highlights of Industry Week was a fascinating guest lecture delivered by the UN Regional Security Adviser for Asia and the Pacific.
With over 19 years’ experience as a UN staff member and 8 years as an international consultant, the speaker provided students and staff with an eye-opening insight into:
How humanitarian operations are carried out in emergency settings
The work of the UN World Food Programme
The real challenges faced by humanitarian workers around the world
This inspiring session gave students a rare opportunity to hear directly from someone working at the heart of global humanitarian efforts and broadened their understanding of international careers and global impact.
Industry Week is designed to help students see the direct link between their degree and the opportunities available after graduation. By meeting professionals, visiting workplaces, and hearing real career stories, students gain confidence, awareness, and motivation for their own next steps.
At SGS, we are committed to ensuring our Higher Education students leave not only with a qualification, but with the knowledge, experience, and connections to succeed in their chosen industries. Industry Week is a key part of that journey.
