Our Women in Wildlife Society recently hosted its first talk, welcoming Isobel from the Women in Wildlife organisation to speak with students about careers, opportunities, and experiences within the wildlife sector.
The session gave students an insight into the realities of working within wildlife-related fields and highlighted the experiences of women who are currently building careers in conservation, ecology, animal management and other environmental disciplines. Isobel shared valuable perspectives on navigating the industry, developing confidence in professional spaces, and the importance of building supportive networks.
Women in Wildlife is an organisation dedicated to supporting and connecting women who are studying, working in, or passionate about wildlife and conservation. Through networking opportunities, mentoring, events and shared resources, the organisation aims to empower women within the sector and help create a stronger, more supportive community across wildlife disciplines.
During the talk, students explored how becoming involved in organisations like Women in Wildlife can open doors to professional connections, career advice, and learning opportunities beyond the classroom. The session also encouraged discussion around the challenges and successes women experience in the field, giving students a chance to ask questions and gain valuable insight into future career pathways.
The event also marked an exciting step for the SGS Women in Wildlife Society, which aims to create a supportive space for students who are interested in wildlife, conservation and the natural world. Through guest speakers, discussions, and networking opportunities, the society provides students with a chance to connect with like-minded peers while learning more about the industry.
The society is open to students across SGS, not just those studying wildlife-related courses. Anyone with an interest in wildlife, conservation, or environmental issues is encouraged to get involved.
Students who would like to join the Women in Wildlife Society can find more information upon enrolement. where details about upcoming meetings and events will be shared.
With more talks and activities planned throughout the year, the society hopes to continue building a community of students passionate about wildlife and conservation while supporting the next generation of professionals in the field.
