SGS Sports Therapy Students Gain Hands-On Anatomical Insight at University of Bristol

Year 1 students from the SGS BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation programme recently took their learning beyond the classroom with a specialist Musculoskeletal Review Day at the University of Bristol.

Hosted by the highly respected Dr Suzanne Scott, an experienced anatomy lecturer with an impressive background that includes publishing work and supporting the England men’s football team, the visit provided students with an invaluable opportunity to deepen their understanding of human anatomy in a specialist university setting.

Throughout the day, students explored a wide range of anatomical specimens, enabling them to consolidate their theoretical knowledge and see first-hand how muscles produce movement. The experience brought classroom concepts to life, reinforcing key principles of musculoskeletal structure and function that underpin sports therapy and rehabilitation practice.

Dr Scott’s expertise and engaging teaching style ensured the session was both informative and inspiring. By connecting detailed anatomical study to real-world clinical and sporting contexts, she helped students appreciate the direct relevance of anatomy to their future professional roles.

The visit reflects SGS’s commitment to providing high-quality, industry-relevant experiences that enhance student learning and professional development. Opportunities such as this allow students to build confidence, strengthen their clinical reasoning, and gain exposure to specialist facilities and expertise within the higher education sector.

The University of Bristol team expressed enthusiasm about continuing the partnership, opening the door for future collaborative sessions that will further enrich the student experience.

One Year 1 student commented:

“Seeing the anatomy in such detail really helped everything click into place. It’s completely different from just looking at diagrams – you can truly understand how movement is produced and why injuries occur. It’s been one of the highlights of the course so far.”

Experiences like this ensure SGS Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation students are equipped with the practical insight, anatomical confidence, and professional understanding needed to progress within the dynamic field of sports healthcare.
