Calling all animal lovers - an exciting opportunity awaits!

As you may know Bristol Zoo Gardens in Clifton closed its doors to visitors last year. But if you enrol in the Zoological Management and Conservation degree programme at SGS College's University Centre, this former iconic Bristol landmark will become one of your classrooms!

SGS students have access to Bristol Zoological Society’s Conservation and Education Centre within the Clifton site. This superb opportunity will continue until students fully transition to studying at the award-winning Bristol Zoo Project site near Cribbs Causeway. Current students enjoy a cutting-edge hybrid learning programme that spans both locations, making this an extraordinary opportunity that comes once in a lifetime!

This degree programme is led by a diverse group of expert professionals drawn from research, field conservation, and zoological management backgrounds. It is designed to immerse you in the world of current zoo management practices, fostering your growth within the industry.

Throughout the course, you will not only enhance your understanding of biology, animal behaviour, and husbandry, but also delve into industry-specific skills such as crafting environmental enrichment, designing enclosures, conducting biological specimen assessment and identification, and understanding the importance of zoos and aquariums in the wider conservation world.

Our ultimate goal is to prepare you for the industry as soon as you complete the programme. This is achieved through a wide-range of visits or work experience opportunities that our students have successfully undertaken in the past. These valuable experiences have taken place at Bristol Zoological Society, and other renowned institutions such as Paignton Zoo, Chester Zoo, Monkey World, and Berlin Zoo.

Don’t just take our word for it!

"Through the BSc (Hons)Zoological Management and Conservation course, I’ve been able to visit and lookbehind the scenes of multiple zoos and aquariums in Germany and the UK. We also frequently received talks from expert guest lecturers in a wide variety of fields. I highly recommend this course for anyone looking to become an animal care or conservation professional as it is full of once-in-a-life-time experiences!"
