Dare to dream – Bristol’s pathway to professional sport

SGS University Centre offers a unique programme allowing students to train to be top-level athletes alongside their academic studies. SGS University Centre provides an opportunity for university students to complete level 4, 5 and 6 qualifications while also pursuing their dream of professional sport.  

The SGS Sport Academy programme offers students professional level coaching for 15 hours a week including access to two gyms, strength and conditioning programmes, ice baths and a medical team for physio, rehabilitation and injury prevention sessions. These are all benefits alongside studying for a full-time degree with a wraparound support system to make everything manageable. A unique selling point of the SGS University Centre is that all Sports Academy activity is embedded within the timetable, avoiding the requirement for early morning or late night sessions. 

Wednesday’s offers you the chance to play in the competitive fixtures held both at home (The SGS WISE Campus) and away at a multitude of other sports facilities around the country. Other opportunities such as trips abroad to play against other teams or to compete are also a benefit of this programme. Giving you experiences of other cultures and traditions within the sporting industry.

SGS University Centre Academies have had many successes, with the Football Academy working their way through the BUCS league after winning the Western 7A, Western 6A, Western 5A and Western 4A Leagues in the last four years to now play at Western 3A Level. Whilst our American Football side ply their trade in the BUCS Southern Premier division against the top teams in the country.

The outstanding facilities at SGS include a 3G Football Stadium pitch, the only dedicated 3G American Football pitch in the country, a 3G indoor arena, indoor golf range, an indoor sports hall, two strength and conditioning gyms, an 8-lane running track, a rugby stadium pitch, multiple grass pitches, an ice bath and a sports injury clinic. Many of these facilities are booked out and used by professional clubs such as Bristol Flyers, Bristol Bears, South Africa Rugby and the Barbarians and therefore they have brilliant contacts for your future after SGS.
