Degree Level Specialist Make-Up Design End of Year Newsletter Celebrates Student Success

The Specialist Make-Up Design Degree course has released its End of Year Newsletter, celebrating another successful year of creativity, technical achievement and industry experience.

The newsletter highlights the outstanding work produced by students throughout the academic year, showcasing the impressive skills they have developed across a range of specialist make-up disciplines. For their final projects, students created an exciting collection of characters and designs, including science fiction creations, animal-human hybrids, editorial looks and realistic special effects make-up.

Throughout the course, students refined a wide range of industry techniques, including sculpting, mould making, prosthetic casting, painting, flocking, hair laying and wig refronting. The newsletter showcases these final projects, demonstrating the creativity, craftsmanship and dedication of the graduating cohort.

Alongside their practical studies, students gained valuable industry experience through professional collaborations and live productions. During the year, they provided specialist hair and make-up for productions including Showgirls and the Bristol Institute of Performing Arts' production of Oliver!, as well as collaborating with the University of Gloucestershire on the short film The Infection. These opportunities enabled students to apply their skills in real-world creative environments while building confidence and professional experience.

The newsletter also reflects on the course's End of Year Showcase, where students celebrated their achievements with family, friends and staff. Visitors had the opportunity to view final make-up creations, sketchbooks, maquettes and development work, while models showcased students' completed looks, offering an insight into the creative process behind each project.

The Specialist Make-Up Design End of Year Newsletter celebrates not only the exceptional work produced by students but also the strong industry focus of the course, preparing graduates for careers across film, television, theatre, fashion and special effects.
