Exploring Creativity Beyond the Classroom: How the Gane Trust Supports Our Students.

Exploring Creativity Beyond the Classroom: How the Gane Trust Supports Our Students

Creative inspiration can come from anywhere. Whether it's discovering new cultures, exploring dramatic landscapes or finding fresh perspectives, new experiences can play an important role in developing an artist's creative practice.

Through the Gane Trust, students at SGS are supported to pursue opportunities that inspire their work, build confidence and allow them to explore their interests beyond the classroom.

For Fine Art and Material Practice students Abhilash and Kit, this support has helped make two very different creative journeys possible.

Finding inspiration in Japan

Fine Art and Material Practice degree student Abhilash recently travelled to Japan with support from the Gane Trust.

The trip gave Abhilash the opportunity to experience a different culture, explore new perspectives and discover fresh sources of creative inspiration. Experiencing a new environment can open up different ways of thinking and seeing the world, offering valuable ideas that can be brought back into artistic practice.

His journey provided an opportunity to explore, learn and develop his creative outlook beyond the usual study environment.

Finding creative inspiration on the Isle of Skye

For recently graduated Fine Art and Material Practice student Kit, Gane Trust support helped fund a photography trip to the Isle of Skye.

Known for its dramatic landscapes and striking natural beauty, the island provided the perfect setting for Kit to explore his photography and gather inspiration for future artwork.

For Kit, photography is more than a hobby. It is a form of therapy and an important way to develop his creative practice. During his trip, he had the freedom to slow down, explore his surroundings and experiment with different creative elements, including natural forms, composition, shapes, lines and light.

The experience allowed him to capture the landscape through his own perspective while developing ideas that could influence his future work.

Take a look at Kit's journey and discover some of the photographs he captured during his time on the island.

Supporting creativity and new opportunities

Although their journeys took them to very different destinations, both Abhilash and Kit demonstrate the value of stepping outside familiar surroundings and embracing new experiences.

The Gane Trust helps students access opportunities that can broaden their horizons, encourage experimentation and support their development as creative practitioners.

From international travel to exploring the natural world, these experiences offer more than just a change of scenery. They provide opportunities to discover new perspectives, develop skills and find inspiration that can continue to influence students long after their journeys have ended.

By supporting students in pursuing these experiences, the Gane Trust plays an important role in helping them explore their creative potential and take the next steps in their artistic journeys.
