World Champions South Africa Rugby enjoy facilities at our WISE Campus

We have had an exciting visit from South Africa Rugby who utilised our world class facilities at WISE Campus as they prepared for their match vs Bristol Bears at Ashton Gate on the 17th of November. Over a 3-day period they used our new rugby stadium pitch, rugby specific training grids and performance gym for their team preparation.

Our Rugby Academy coaches, athletes and some Further Education and Higher Education Media students were given a once a lifetime opportunity to observe training sessions, interact with the staff and team and conduct industry standard interviews to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Two of our media students, Will Primrose and Freddie Noble, who also play rugby at the college were elated after this opportunity stating: "WOW, what an experience today seeing the Springboks in the flesh, thank you so much Bristol Academy of Media for the opportunity"

"What an incredible experience for our staff and students to interact with players who are at the top of their game. Many of this South Africa squad are not much older than some of our second years so it has given them important insight to what the top of our sport looks like. We are very lucky here at SGS College to have such incredible facilities, which bring consistent opportunities like this for our students. The smiles on everyone’s faces are an indication of the impact this sort of experience can have on all involved."
Dan Cox - Director of Rugby

Over the last 14 months we have been lucky enough to host the Canada National Team, Recent World Cup runners up The Red Roses (England Women’s National Team) and the reigning men’s World Champions South Africa. Not to mention the professional football teams and regular elite athletes from other sports. The feedback from all who use our facilities and interact with our staff and students has been extremely positive and credit must go to WISE Campus Manager Ian Holtby, for his tireless work on this.

We would like to thank South Africa for choosing us as a training base and providing our students with such an enriching experience. Finally we would like to wish them all the best vs our partners Bristol Bears and England in their upcoming fixtures.
