Mark Read

I am an experienced academic leader and curriculum specialist with over 18 years’ service at SGS College. I began my career at Filton College, as it was then known, as an In-class Support Worker working across multiple departments, where I gained valuable insight into learner support and student needs. After three years, I progressed into a role as a Sports Lecturer, where I further developed my teaching practice and subject expertise, before being appointed Head of Sport in 2020. In April 2025, I advanced into the role of Curriculum Director at the WISE Campus, taking strategic responsibility for curriculum performance, quality improvement, and learner outcomes across the campus. As a proud Bristolian, I am deeply passionate about SGS College and the communities it serves, and I care strongly about the learners who come through our doors. I am committed to widening participation across the region and raising aspirations through education. I take great pride in supporting inclusive, industry-relevant programmes that prepare students effectively for their next steps. I am driven by the impact our college can have and continuously strive to create a learning environment that inspires ambition, confidence, and achievement. Outside of my professional role, I am a keen football supporter and a lifelong Manchester United fan. I am also a proud parent to two young boys who share my passion for the game.
