SGS College’s University Centre has achieved national recognition in the latest National Student Survey (NSS) results, solidifying its position as a leading institution for academic support and excellence in the UK and West of England. This remarkable achievement showcases the College's commitment to fostering top-tier teaching and outstanding support that empowers students to thrive.

The results of NSS 2023 are in, and SGS College's University Centre has emerged as a shining example of how Further Education colleges can make a big impact in the Higher Education sector. Amidst strong national competition, SGS College proudly secured an impressive result in the Academic Support category, with an exceptional 97% student positivity rating placing SGS in the top 5% of institutions in the UK.

In addition to the outstanding academic support results, SGS College has also claimed the top spot among colleges in the West of England for Organisation and Management, and Student Voice. Whilst also securing an exceptional 90% positivity rating in the vital 'teaching on my course' category.

Noteworthy highlights from NSS 2023 also include SGS College's Higher Education staff, who have received glowing praise from students for their ability to explain topics and subjects. Earning an impressive 95% positivity rating, surpassing the overall English sector average of 91%.

Furthermore, SGS College's degrees have proven to be engaging, with an impressive 88% of students confirming that their academic journey is intellectually stimulating. Soaring above the English sector average score of 84% highlights the College's commitment to providing enriching, thought-provoking and employer focussed experiences.

Sara-Jane Watkins, SGS College Principal, expressed her pride and enthusiasm for these exceptional accomplishments. She emphasised the College's significant investments in academic and well-being support, especially in the evolving landscape of post-pandemic education. Sara-Jane commented, "I am thrilled that 86% of our students appreciate the effectiveness and communication of our mental health services and that 90% feel empowered to freely express their ideas and beliefs." These impressive results stand as a testament to the College's ongoing efforts and its impactful 'Study with Pride' campaign, a partnership with Bristol Pride and St Paul's Carnival, promoting inclusivity, belonging, and self-expression within the SGS community.

Penny Chislett, Director of Education Support Operations at SGS College, shared her elation at the outcomes of the National Student Survey. "These exceptional results mirror our unwavering commitment to student success. Our dedicated team, encompassing Additional Learning Support, Study Skills, and Disability Services, takes immense pride in being an integral part of our students' academic journey," Penny Chislett continued, "We extend heartfelt gratitude to our students for recognising and valuing the support we provide. Their active engagement and willingness to embrace assistance have been instrumental in achieving these remarkable milestones."

The National Student Survey (NSS), primarily aimed at final-year undergraduate students, serves as a pivotal platform for gathering invaluable insights and feedback about their higher education experience. Covering essential aspects such as course instruction, assessment, feedback, and course organisation. The survey obtains invaluable insight and opinion from students about their educational journey at SGS College.
