SGS Table Tennis coach receives coach of the year award

SGS Sport Head Table Tennis Coach Nick Davidson has been awarded the highly prestigious 2023 Table Tennis England Pride Award for the South West Regional Coach of the Year. This esteemed award acknowledges Davidson's extraordinary contribution to the sport of table tennis, extending throughout a vast area that encompasses the counties of Avon and Gloucestershire, as well as beyond.

Davidson's work as a part-time head coach at SGS Sport has resulted in a remarkable surge in the popularity of table tennis among both juniors and adults, with waiting lists for his sessions. His extensive network of contacts ensures that he leaves no stone unturned in providing opportunities for everyone to participate. Moreover, his passion for table tennis extends beyond SGS Sport, as he chairs Cheltenham Table Tennis Club and another club in the Southwest, both of which have witnessed an increase in their youth population and coaching teams under his guidance.

As a mentor to several coaches in the region, Davidson actively promotes the sport and collaborates with Table Tennis England as a tutor and assessor. His contributions to the sport are not limited to coaching, as he also manages teams in the local league, National junior league, British Junior league, and participates in national tournaments. Davidson's commitment to holistic coaching is reflected in his approach to working with individuals, and he always prioritises his players' development over any personal recognition.

Davidson's dedication to the sport is not just limited to his professional life, but it extends to his personal life as well. He coaches his own children on an individual basis, alongside Michele Reeves, the number 3 player in England over 40 and a former National Champion. He is always willing to travel long distances to help players reach their full potential and has a wealth of experience that he is happy to share with anyone who is interested. Additionally, Davidson finds time to serve as the chair for Tri Team Glos, Young Triathletes.

Davidson's recognition as the South West Regional Coach of the Year serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the sport of table tennis. He embodies the values of sportsmanship, hard work, and dedication, which are integral to the spirit of the game. Davidson's passion for the sport, coupled with his extensive experience and expertise, makes him a true asset to the table tennis community
